about

This album is a compilation of the previous 2 vinyl EPs, Blue Notes, and The Season, put together for release on CD.

There were supposed to be 2 more EPs and a CD after this, The Butcher Shop, and The Epic, which would have been the album named Part 2. If you joined all 4 EPs together they would form a big photo collage with the name Koolism in the centre, drawn by our mate Seth.

However, anyone who knows our music knows those EPs and Part 2 never came out. As slow as I (Dan) was at finishing what I started, and even with the great help from Parallax View and Creative Vibes, we were making tracks faster than we could release them. The track named Myself on Part 1 was first recorded in 1996, so it was 6 years old already, and the rest were 3 or 4 years old. By the time we could get the next 2 EPs out, those tracks would also be years old, and we already had a whole extra album almost ready to go. So, with a strong desire to release something that sounded new, we put The Butcher Shop and The Epic to the side, thinking we'd release them later to complete the set, and pressed on with releasing the album Part 3 while it was still fresh.

Releasing Part 3 next turned out to be a good move. Sadly tho, this was still kind of early days for DAW and hard drive based recording, hard drive crashes, and data loss, in which we were pioneers with no backup strategy. We lost all the recordings for those other 2 EPs and many years worth of other great material. Data recovery was inaccessible. Also around the same time someone busted into our car on tour and stole our MPC disks with all our beats, and our records. These weren't insurmountable problems but ultimately we never got around to recreating that stuff so there's no Part 2. Never say never tho...
